Pierre Alary was born on May 1, 1970. In 1991, he enrolled at the prestigious Gobelins graphic arts school in Paris, where he focused his studies on animation. After graduating, he was hired by the Disney studios in Montreuil: he spent ten years working as an animator on films such as Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as various short films, before turning his attention primarily to comic books. In 2001, he created the Les Échaudeurs des Ténèbres series; he co-wrote the first volume with Bertrand Mandico, while the second and final chapter was written by Rodolphe in 2003. Between 2004 and 2007, he published Belladone, scripted by Ange. Between 2008 and 2010 he worked for Soleil on the fantasy SinBad with Audrey Alwett and Scotch Arleston. After that, he worked on a comic book adaptation of Moby Dick, realized with Olivier Jouvray. In 2013, he created the Silas Corey comic series with Fabien Nury. His most recent works — the two-part series Il mio traditore (“My Traitor”) and Ritorno a Killybegs (“Return to Killybegs”), based on the Irish-set novels by Sorj Chalandon — were published by Éditions Rue de Sèvres, as was Via col vento (“Gone with the Wind”), one of his most personal and successful projects.
Il mio traditore has been selected for the 2026 Lucca Comics Awards. He will present a preview of Don Vega at Lucca Comics & Games 2026. During Lucca Comics & Games 2026, he will be in attendance from October 29 to November 1.
