From HBO to network Primetime, award winning Writer, Producer, and Showrunner Daniel Knauf’s name has become synonymous with excellence in the unusual, the unexpected and intriguing.
A native Angeleno, Knauf grew up with an innate love for storytelling. At 27, he decided to resurrect his aspirations for a writing career. His ”overnight success” occurred two decades later with his Depression-era series Carnivàle, which set audience records for HBO and won five Primetime Emmys.
Following Carnivàle, Knauf went on to produce and write on the CW’s Supernatural, the hit STARZ series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, NBC’s Dracula, and 60 episodes of the award winning, critically acclaimed NBC series The Blacklist starring James Spader. In a departure from his stylistically dark body of work, he was tapped by Imagine Kids and Family to create The Astronauts, for which he was awarded WGA and Emmy® nominations.
Collaborating with his son Charles, Knauf has written extended runs of Iron Man for Marvel Comics, as well as The Eternals and Captain America.
His latest projects are a Christmas chapter-book, Gingerland, now available on Amazon, and an epic contemporary retelling of Dante’s masterpiece, Inferno, to be released as a graphic novel trilogy with artist Mike Collins (Doctor Who, Transformers, Judge Dredd, Zoids, A Christmas Carol) and an upcoming nine-part limited TV series.
He is currently in pre-production on an action-horror theatrical feature, Blood & Iron, as well as actively developing a TV series adaptation based on Stephen King’s The Regulators to be helmed by award-winning Korean director, Yeon Sang-ho (Train To Busan).
