Born in Austin, Texas, 1996, Tillie Walden is a distinguished cartoonist and illustrator and is considered one of the leading voices of GenZ.
She studied at Center for Cartoon Studies, where she currently teaches, and lives in Vermont with her wife and son. She made her debut in the world of comics with her graphic novels The End of Summer (2015), I Love This Part (2016), which received a nomination for the Best Single Issue/One-Shot category at the Eisner Award, and A City Inside, earning two Ignatz Awards.
She became one of the youngest cartoonists to win an Eisner Award with her well-known work Spinning (2017), which was published by First Second Books and translated into Italian in 2018 by Oscar Ink under the Italian title Trottole. In 2020, Bao Publishing published her next graphic novel On a Sunbeam in Italy, which won the Los Angeles Book award in 2018, and shortly after, Are you listening? in 2021, which won again the most prestigious Eisner Award for Best Graphic Novel.
She created a young adult trilogy titled Clementine for Skybound, a spin-off of The Walking Dead – published by SaldaPress in Italy – which was introduced in Lucca Comics Awards’ collection. Furthermore, she illustrated a tarot deck, a children’s book titled “My parents won’t stop talking!”, and two memoir graphic novels Tegan and Sara – Junior High based on the indie band of these two American sisters.
In 2022, Bao Publishing published Alone in Space – a collection of short stories written during her college years – in which Walden explored the influence of the language of comics.
In September 2026, Bao Publishing will release the graphic novel Charity and Sylvia, in which Tillie Walden blends fictional and historical elements to recount the bravery of two lesbian women who, in the early 1800s in Vermont, confront social norms of their time and decide to live together.
She will be a guest at Lucca Comics & Games 2026 in collaboration with Bao Publishing from 28th October to 1st November.
