Rai Cultura is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Lucca Comics & Games with a special documentary dedicated to the long history of the event, the world’s oldest comic and pop culture festival. A narrative woven from memories, in which the testimonies of those currently involved in organising the event are interwoven with valuable contributions from Rai Teche, whilst the story of the ‘city of comics’ reflects profound changes in the cultural imagination, both nationally and globally.
On the opening day, 28 October, the special will be presented in Lucca, at the Cappella Guinigi in Piazza San Francesco, at 2.00 pm (CET), in a previously unseen extended 70-minute version, introduced by a panel featuring the author and the event’s staff.
Written and directed by Enrico Platania, “60 volte Lucca: L’avventurosa storia di Lucca Comics & Games” will be broadcast on Rai5 on Tuesday 27 October, in the late evening, on the eve of the event’s opening, and will then be available on RaiPlay. It will then be repeated on Rai4 on Wednesday 4 November, again in the late evening, as part of a special evening programme dedicated to the festival.
Among the testimonials featured in the special, those of Emanuele Vietina, the current director of Lucca Comics & Games; Renato Genovese, director from 2000 to 2016 and creator of Lucca Games; and comics historian Pier Luigi Gaspa, who has curated numerous exhibitions in Lucca.
