Every Cowboy Bebop fan knows full well that ‘Tank!’ isn’t just a theme tune, but a gateway to an entire universe: ‘Three, two, one: let’s jam!’ and you’re right in the thick of it, without even asking permission. Behind it all is Yoko Kanno, a composer, arranger, performer and producer with an irresistible flair for communication. From the jazz of Cowboy Bebop to the ethereal, electronic atmospheres of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, via Macross Frontier, Darker than Black and Genesis of Aquarion, her music traverses genres and universes, never settling in one place.
At this musical event, you’ll get to know one of the most inventive and surprising figures in contemporary sound, an artist capable of transforming soundtracks into chases, explorations and emotionally intense imagery. With her compositions, in fact, the most immediate question is not so much whether we recognise the melody, but how many scenes begin to unfold before our eyes.
During this special celebration, the audience will have the opportunity to hear some of the most iconic pieces from Yoko Kanno’s extraordinary career performed live, through musical arrangements produced under the artistic direction of Let Me See Produzioni, with contributions from the arrangers and musicians Stefano Leonardi, Marco Pettinato (stage name John Lui) and Carlo Viani. The performance will be further enhanced by the participation of the Aniemeniacs choir and musicians from the Luigi Boccherini Conservatoire in Lucca, bringing to life a musical tribute that celebrates the richness and originality of Yoko Kanno’s musical universe.
