How is a character created? And what happens when you introduce them into a story that’s yet to be invented? In this creative workshop, author and illustrator Chris Riddell will guide children in discovering how a story can come to life, and how characters, places and narrative worlds can take shape. Starting with his own deck of illustrated cards, Chris will draw live and involve the participants in creating new characters and scenarios, inviting them to develop their own ideas through drawing and free storytelling.
With pencils in hand, the children will be able to give shape to their imagination, experiment with different ways of telling a story and discover how even a simple drawing can become the starting point for a great adventure.
The workshop will conclude with a chance to share the work created and a question-and-answer session with the author.
Target audience: Years 4–5 of primary school, Year 1 of secondary school
