Chris Riddell is one of the greatest, most cultured and sophisticated contemporary authors and illustrators for children and adults, and is the political cartoonist for The Observer.
He was appointed Waterstones Children’s Laureate for 2015–2017, the most important and prestigious British award, conferred every two years upon those who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary contributions to children’s literature. He was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in recognition of his work in illustration and charity.
He has produced over a hundred books and won numerous awards, including the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal on three occasions.

He has created illustrations and collaborated with various authors, including Neil Gaiman, Paul Stewart, Kathryn Cave and Richard Platt, whilst also reimagining great literary classics such as Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking and many others.
