
Jonathan Hickman, a widely acclaimed figure of modern age, is an American multi-awarded and successful artist, born in 1972. His visual storyboarding changed the modern superhero fiction of American culture.
Working in the IT and advertising field, Hickman began working for Image Comics in 2000, establishing himself as a contemporary artist with numerous creator-owned works, including The Nightly News, Pax Romana, The Manhattan Projects, and East of West – which define Hickman’s distinctive style, characterized by a rich world-building, a brave graphic design, and a high-concept ideas.
His wide and touching stories – crafted with a strong focus on long-term development – entered into the hearts of thousands of readers. In 2009, he began collaborating with Marvel Comics, rapidly becoming a prominent figure with his most celebrated co-creating process of Fantastic Four, Avengers and X-Men – along with Secret Warriors and Ultimate Comics: Ultimate.
Dickman’s most significant work is Secret Warriors – a crossover event that redefined Marvel’s universe – which is still considered as one of the most iconic and unforgettable stories of his artistic career. In 2019, he successfully relaunched the series X-Men along with the so-called “Krakoan Era”, a huge-celebrated story developed on several issues, earning positive feedback by the audience and critic.
Collaborating with numerous and pivotal American publishers, Hickman continues to pursue independent projects, such as the 3 Worlds/3 Moons project for Dark Horse. In 2023 – after returning to Marvel Comics – he helped spearhead the relaunch of Ultimate Spider-Man.
Over the past few years, he created some of the most famous titles such as Wolverine: Revenge, Imperial, and Longshots, and he currently works on the new series of Spider-Man: Long Way Home with Adam Kubert.
Ground-breaking and powerful, Hickman continues to shift the expressive boundaries of comic books towards a new creation of original worlds.
He will be a guest at Lucca Comics & Games in collaboration with Panini Comics from 28th October to 1st November.
